About Us

Serving since 1956

A Brief History of the Saraland Lions Club

The Saraland Lions Club was founded in 1956 with 88 members. Many of the charter members were Satsuma Lions, but lived and worked in Saraland. These Lions felt that they could better serve the Saraland community by chartering a Lions Club for Saraland. The club met at the Saraland Woman’s Club building when first established, where Lions Club members remodeled the bathrooms and built a barbecue pit that was used for many fundraisers. Over the years, the Saraland Lions Club has been instrumental in accomplishing many projects that enhanced the Saraland community. Projects such as: establishing physical addresses for residents and numbering houses, bringing gas service to the area, helping to establish Saraland Elementary School, building and refurbishing the building benches and tables in public places and parks, building Hertz Park for the community to enjoy, building many pavilions and basically playing a substantial role in the overall maintenance and beauty of the city. Purpose Statement The club has seen members come and go, but Saraland Lions Club’s purpose has stayed the same; to serve as champions of blind, aid in sight research, using road blocks and pancake breakfasts to help needy persons receive the eye care, sending children to Camp Seale Harris for children with Diabetes, vision and hearing enhancing equipment and aiding in needed community projects.
